Why You Should Be Blogging

Blogging can be very beneficial to almost all businesses.  Whether you are small and just starting out or have been around for a while, blogging has great potential.

You may be intimidated by blogging because of the amount of effort you will have to put into maintaining a blog but it can be worth the effort if done correctly and consistently. So many business owners wonder if it is important to have a blog on their website and you may be one of them.  You may think that there is only so much that can be written about your business and trade.  But as a business owner you have experiences that are unique to you and you alone.  Why not capitalize on that uniqueness by writing and distributing a blog.

There are many benefits to writing a blog for a business and below are just a few.

  • Helps drive people to your website
  • Builds trust
  • Helps create a recognizable brand
  • Personalizes your business
  • Allows you to keep your customers informed
  • Attracts qualified leads to your business

Are you unsure on how to get started writing a blog and maintaining it?  Start by talking to your web designer or Webmaster to see how you can physically put your blog on your site.  It is best to have your blog on your main site so that you can benefit from the traffic your blog will receive.  Once you have your blog set up on your site you should start to plan your articles.  I create a quarterly schedule of blogs to post once a week.  I try to map out the content for the blog to correspond with any sales Direct Mail Impressions is offering at the time to boost interest to those sales.  For example, Direct Mail Impressions will be having a greeting card promotion in late October early November to encourage our customers to print and mail out seasonal greeting cards.  I will write several articles and create an infographic explaining the benefits of greeting cards in customer retention.

Once you have a schedule, find out who in your company has interest or skills in writing.  Writing blogs can be a company wide activity.  Try to keep ahead of the game by having several articles in reserve and incorporate supplemental content other than articles such as infographics, motion graphics and videos to accent  the articles and add variety.

The key to blogging is offering interesting content that your reader will gravitate to, as well as consistency in producing that content.  I have read and seen organizations who are able to create as much as 2 and 3 blogs a week and that is great for them but if you can’t consistently produce good content at that amount lower your expectations in favor of quality content.

And remember to post and share your blogs on your social media networks for the optimum amount of viewing and sharing.
