Current USPS Incentive: Up to a 3% Postal Discount for “The Mail Drives Mobile Commerce” Program

As a direct mail professional we are aware of the ongoing incentives the USPS offer to gain more business from consumers and businesses.  One of their new incentives is the “Mail Drives Mobile Commerce” promotion aimed at businesses and mailers offering products for sale during the 2014 holiday shopping season.  Mailers can earn an upfront two percent postage discount on qualifying mail pieces by integrating mobile technology with direct mail to create a convenient method for consumers to do their shopping.

 

Direct mail, combined with mobile technology, continues to be a convenient method for customers to do their shopping. Send your customers mail with a mobile barcode or other print/mobile technology that can be scanned by a mobile device. This gives them an easy way to purchase a product via a mobile-optimized web site.

 

Program Overview

The Mail Drives Mobile Commerce Promotion provides business mailers with an upfront two percent postage discount on Standard Mail® letters and flats. The mail piece should include a mobile barcode or print/mobile technology that can be read or scanned by a mobile device and leads the recipient to a mobile-optimized web site.

Mailers may also qualify for an additional one percent rebate on the postage of their qualified mailings if a portion of their orders are fulfilled via Priority Mail®. There is a separate application form to participate in the Priority Mail rebate.

 

General Program Information 

Registration Period: September 15 through December 31, 2014
Promotion Period: November 1 through December 31, 2014
Discount Amount: Two percent of eligible postage. The discount is calculated inPostalOne!® and applied to the postage statement at the time of mailing. The discount is deducted from the postage amounts of qualifying product categories that are paid at the time of mailing. Normal postage prices listed in the published Price List (Notice 123) apply to the mailing and the discount is applied to those prices.
Eligible Mail Classes: Standard Mail letters and flats, Nonprofit Standard Mail letters & flats
Ineligible Mail: All First-Class Mail®, Periodicals (includes Pending Periodicals mail), Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail®
Rebate Registration Period: December 15, 2014 through January 15, 2015
Fulfillment Period: November 3, 2014 through January 15, 2015
Rebate Period: January 1 through February 15, 2015
Rebate Amount: 1 percent of eligible postage that was discounted during the promotion period

 

Eligibility Requirements

All qualifying mail must have a mobile barcode or equivalent technology that can be scanned by a mobile device and directs customers to a mobile optimized web site. The mail piece should also have text that tells the customer to scan the barcode or image and provides information about the landing page.

 

Website Requirements

The mail piece must direct customers to an advertised product that can be conveniently purchased through a complete mobile optimized shopping experience on a mobile device.

 

Mailing Requirements

To be eligible for the discount, all mail received must contain an Intelligent Mail® barcode and mailing documentation must be submitted electronically.
